The HofGarden is located inside (and on top!) of the historic Hofheimer Building which has lived at the intersection of Scott's Addition and the Fan District for almost a century. The name is an homage to the Hofgarten (Court Garden) in Munich that sits between a former Bavarian palace and a large urban park.
Scott's Addition is a young and upcoming neighborhood in RVA. The HofGarden would serve traditional german food and beer, but it didn't want to look like one. So instead of going the traditional german approach, we wanted a look that was cool and functional so it could be used for beer glasses, coasters, and other collateral. Through a combination of script, serifs, and illustration we landed on a mark that conveyed "Beer Garden" but appealed to younger audiences.
